To obtain the greatest benefits from additive manufacturing, products have to be designed considering new principles, materials and digital tools.
There are inherently more issues to address with metal printed components, and the costs of getting it wrong are significantly higher than with a polymer so this is a focus of the course.
This course covers the fundamentals of designing a component to take advantage of the additive process, and this will be appropriate for people who are printing plastics, composites or metals, for full manufacturing or simply creating prototypes.
By attending this concise training course you will gain an understanding of how to design metal parts for additive manufacturing – improving product performance, avoiding common failures and considering costs.

About the Trainer: Adam Arnold
Adam Arnold spent his early career at Ipeco, a Tier 1 supplier to Boeing and Airbus, creating groundbreaking light weight flow heating solutions for the 787, A350 and A380. After a short spell at a design consultancy, where he was part of a team who were awarded a number of patents for work on a subsea optical fibre product, he spent 5 years at the international defence company Cobham working as a senior engineer on special projects in the radar and antenna division, coordinating with RF specialists across numerous sites.
Adam’s background is developing products to the most arduous specifications and environments for land, air, sea and space applications. This has given him a firm understanding of the principles of structural, thermal and fluid dynamics and how to best apply them to cutting-edge product design.
In 2014 Adam embarked on starting up one of the first design consultancies dedicated to additive-manufactured components for advanced industries, combining cutting-edge software, additive manufacturing design knowledge and an innovative approach to solving challenging problems.
Adam continues to lead his company dedicated to exploring and exploiting the new design boundaries that additive manufacturing allows, utilising exotic materials and a raft of printing technologies to push the performance limits of printed products within the defence, aerospace and space industries.
