Submission for Certification

From the point at which a learner completes their assessment there are several processes that must complete before they receive their certificate.

There may be a significant delay between the time you complete your assessments and the time that you receive your certificate. This is because there are many quality assurance measures in place to ensure the integrity of the assessment process. These quality assurance measures are required by QQI. The diagram below shows the process that we follow at FPTS and the role of the people involved.

Steps in the certification process.

  1. The process begins with the learner completing the assessment(s)

  2. The tutor/assessor will use a prescribed marking scheme to award marks and grades and will inform the learners. If for any reason, the learner is not satisfied with the marks awarded, they have the right to appeal the result (see Appeals Procedure for further details).

  3. The Internal Verifier (a member of the FPTS Training Team) will collect and file all the assessments and will check the marks tallies and grades for accuracy. They produce an Internal Verifier Report (IVR) which summarises the results and any feedback provided by the learners and tutors.

  4. The External Authenticator is an external, independent expert who reviews the IVR, and then uses sampling methods to check that assessments have been marked in accordance with the marking scheme and that the grades awarded are consistent with national standards. They produce an EA Report (EAR) which summarises their findings.

  5.  The Results Approval Panel check both the EA and the IV Reports and when they are satisfied that all is in order, they approve the submission of the results to QQI.

  6. At prescribed intervals (typically six times a year) QQI will process the results that have been uploaded by FPTS.

  7. Once results are made available by QQI, they are emailed directly to each trainee by First Polymer Training Skillnet. Results may also be made available to employers as appropriate. QQI Certificates are issued about a month after the official results are issued and are posted to the employer contact/ trainee at their work address (unless otherwise requested).
