Programme overview

This course will incorporate polymer processing (injection moulding and extrusion), materials and plastic part design over 10 days as follows:


Week 1: 13th – 17th May 2024 – Extrusion, Materials and Design, delivered by Padraic Lunn and Peter Cracknell.
Week 2: 20th – 24th May 2024 – Injection Moulding Process Technology delivered by Stephen O’Leary.


The programme also includes a suitable post course paid work placement, subject to availability.


The course is 100% funded, so it is free to attend for eligible applicants. All course materials, lunches and refreshments are provided for the duration of the programme. Candidates must be unemployed at commencement of the programme and available to attend in person each day from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

Who is the course for

This conversion course is aimed at jobseekers who are recent engineering graduates, unemployed engineers/technical personnel (from traditional engineering disciplines such as civil, mechanical, electrical etc.) to provide them with the necessary skills to take up a role in the polymer industry.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you must complete the relevant expression of interest form for consideration at the link below by Tuesday 9th April 2024 at 5pm.

Successful applicants will be notified by Tuesday 16th April 2024.

Assessment & Accreditation

This programme is a QQI component (minor) award, certified at Level 5 on the national framework of qualifications – see www.nfq.ie  and is an elective component of major awards. 

The assessment is comprised of a written exam and a practical exam. The date of the examination is given to each participant during the course, with full guidance and support given by the Trainer.
