Q. What are the entry requirements for programmes offered by First Polymer Training Skillnet

A.  All our programmes require that learners possess literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to a minimum of NFQ Level 4, sufficient to engage with technical learning materials, complete assessments, and participate in practical activities safely and effectively.

Evidence of this standard may include relevant NFQ awards, apprenticeship training, prior education, workplace-based training, or other comparable experience demonstrating the required level of communication and numeracy skills.

Where conventional certification is not available, the FPT Skillnet Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for Access procedure applies. This process enables learners, or their employers on their behalf (with the consent of the learner), to provide appropriate documentary evidence such as CVs, training records, employer confirmation, or other relevant documentation demonstrating their ability to participate successfully in the programme.

Applications are reviewed by FPTS to ensure that learners can engage with programme content and assessment requirements while maintaining equitable access pathways.

Minimum language proficiency requirements:

Learners are expected to possess English language proficiency sufficient to engage with technical learning materials, participate in practical activities safely, and complete assessment requirements.

English language proficiency may be evidenced through State Exams Commission (SEC) results, relevant NFQ awards, or equivalent prior education or training delivered through English. Evidence of achievement at CEFR B2+ level (or equivalent) will also be accepted.

Where formal certification is not available, language proficiency may be demonstrated through relevant workplace experience, employer confirmation, or other appropriate evidence as part of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for Access process.

Minimum requirements for discipline-specific learning

Intending learners are expected to have foundational familiarity with manufacturing or automation environments sufficient to support engagement with technical learning activities. This may include prior exposure to electrical, mechanical, or process control systems through employment, apprenticeship, or previous training.
